Dawghouse Espresso (Closed during re-model of high school)
Approximately ten years ago, the FBLA chapter at Freeman High School invested in an espresso machine, designed to raise funds for the organization. Over that stretch of time, the machine has been operated before school, at athletic events and at various special events. At times we have been very successful, and at other times, just like today’s economy, business has been slow. What the stand needed was to be renovated, updated, and consistently manned.
Last year around this time, the Dawghouse Espresso stand was waist deep in a storage area in the corner of the multi-purpose room. During the month of August, FBLA members decided to take it up a notch and renovated the once dumpy storage area and turned it into the DawgHouse Espresso Lounge. The Dawghouse was completely renovated and turned into a lounge where, in addition to purchasing drinks, students can congregate before school, listen to music and just plain socialize. It has become a fun hangout for many of our students.
Many thanks go out to Lisa Moore, the creative artist behind the new Dawghouse logo. Not only did she paint all the walls and touch up the “old” Scottie Dog, she also used her painting expertise to design the new Dawghouse Logo. Once the walls were painted, we added a table with five chairs, a couch, coffee table, and then turned the grand piano storage box into a bar with a couple of bar stools.
The Dawghouse now offers a wide variety of drinks, from lattes, hot chocolates, and caramel macchiatos, to Italian Sodas and Roy Rogers. We recently added “Café Chillers”, an iced beverage drink, which has become very popular. We have over 35 flavors and various drinks, all at very reasonable prices. In addition, we are now expanding our offerings even more with freshly baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies! In the morning, the halls will soon be filled with the appetizing smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies!
The Lounge is currently operated every morning by manager Cameron Moore and Hannah Lally. When basketball season gets underway they will be assisted by Tyler Hjaltalan, Bre Bell, Max Casto, Austin Fish and Shad Davis. Unless otherwise stated, the Dawghouse opens at 7:30 am every morning and will be open for all the upcoming basketball games. The next time you drop off your child at school, come on in. We encourage you to drop by and check out the DawgHouse Espresso Lounge. All profits go to support Freeman High School Future Business Leaders of America. If you are interested in helping with the Dawghouse Espresso please contact our FBLA advisor Mr. Moore for training opportunities.
