national conference (top)
During the month of July, the ten members listed above and two chaperones traveled to Nashville to take part in the 2010 National FBLA Conference. We had a great time! In addition to the conference, we had the opportunity to take a dinner cruise on the General Jackson; take a tour of the Jack Daniels Distillery (located in a dry county); dine at the world-famous Loveless Cafe in addition to enjoying some true southern BBQ; listen to Charlie Daniels, Montgomery Gentry and a number of other acts at the Grand Ol' Opry; take line dancing lessons at the WildHorse Saloon; toured Blackbird Studios and enjoyed what what Nashville has to offer!
Adopt-a-highway (top)
During the fall of 2008, FBLA joined with the Department of Transportation, and officially “Adopted-a-Highway”. Our stretch of highway is from Darknell Road to the Palouse Highway, approximately two miles. On October 17, 2009, 22 students and adults worked on this project! Thank you so much for your help!
Burgers with a heart (top)
Freeman FBLA has supported the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery since 1999. In the "Burgers with a Heart" program, FBLA members volunteer at Red Robin (in February) and sell paper hearts to community members for donations of $1 or more. Red Robin also donates $.50 to the nursery for every gourmet burger sold. For the last six years, Freeman High School has raised more money than any other high school in the greater Spokane area. This year, we raised $1637! With this accomplishment, our chapter has been awarded with the “Spirit With A Heart” trophy for the fifth straight year! During this time, we are proud to have raised $8398 for the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery. Funds raised in the “Burgers with a Heart” program go directly to support the Nursery.
Freeman Cares 4 kids (top)
Due to the construction of the new high school, Freeman Cares 4 Kids was postponed this year. It will resume again next year.
pro sports career day (top)
For the last four years, we have ventured to Seattle and/or Portland to attend the Pro Sports Career Day. This has been a great trip to learn more about career opportunities in professional sports, in addition to learning from other business in the area, such as McAfee, UL, OMSI, Boeing, Seattle Underground, EMP, and the Seattle Mariners and Seahawks. We have also been able to attend both Sonic and Blazer games. Due to the state of the economy, we have decided to pursue this trip every other year. Stay tuned for our 2010-11 Pro Sports Career Day.
